Chief inspector Sir Martyn Oliver announced as part of his response to the “Big Listen” consultation this week that he had created the seven groups to “share ideas” and offer Ofsted feedback, including examining its frameworks, looking at training and inspection design and recommending improvements. Sir Martyn Oliver The groups will meet three times a year, and between them will 鈥渄iscuss and challenge Ofsted鈥檚 data, research and evaluation plans鈥 and act as “expert advisors on their specialism, sharing important updates and developments鈥. They will also advise on proposed developments around Ofsted鈥檚 areas of research interest, policy or practice, and support and assist with 鈥渢ranslating insights into recommendations and improvements for policy and practice鈥. The groups will also advise on 鈥渕aximising impact and dissemination of our research and evaluation outputs鈥, inform Ofsted鈥檚 strategic priorities and offer 鈥渇eedback and challenge on Ofsted鈥檚 policy work to make sure inspections raise standards in education鈥. They will also give advice on aspects of training relating to leader and staff well-being. Oliver said he was “determined that we continue to improve the way we work, and that means listening to voices within the sectors we inspect and regulate”. “I鈥檓 grateful to all the experts from across education and children鈥檚 social care who have agreed to join our external reference groups.聽 鈥淲e will draw on their insights and expertise, and we鈥檒l welcome constructive challenge to drive continual improvement in our practices and better-quality inspections for children and learners.鈥 Here’s the full list of members.
